What is normal?
Nothing is as boring as we think it is. Most of what we see is pretty normal and seeing this may lead us to believe that life is normal, you may even call this average. But is it?
When I started to follow my guts years ago, I had no idea what it would do. What it would mean or where it would take me.
I have always been creating special moments, maybe even weird moments because those stay with you.
Together my daughters and I have created the most outrages treats when it was their birthday, make birthday parties such a big adventure I still get people come up to me to tell they still remember the party we threw years ago.
But the idea for The Escapist started when I was had to wait fro my car to be repaired and had nowhere to go. THAT was my big aha moment and also that is when I created my first experience, even thought I didn’t realize it then.
I never saw the world as boring, in fact just put me anywhere in the world and I can find something to do, play with or to discover. Nothing can keep me from being curious, trying things out and getting myself into some silly challenge, I invented.
To me this is fun, its about seeing all there is… and this I think is important. Seeing all there is, as most of the time we are rushed. Our mind is trained to help us navigate in a busy, entertainment, information filled world. That means it selects what we need to see and hear and filters out the rest. Everything your mind thinks you don’t need in order to survive, will be archived and not shared.
In real life that means that if you walk your daily walk on the same road, you wont notice most things as your mind thinks you don’t need to see it as this is perceived as normal.
Now of course you can choose to see everything on your walk, but you may find that its pretty hard. Your brain is really good at filtering out most things.
That piece of paper that has been on your desk for weeks, you probably don’t ‘see’ it anymore. Your brain will filter it out.
That empty can that has been left at the backdoor and needs to go in the bin, you might not even notice it after a few days.
That ladybug that has crawled on your t-shirt that’s hanging on the line outside.
The fun starts when you start noticing things, those tiny thing that are normally filtered out.
When we live our lives, we tend to notice less, due to the filtering and might be lead to believe that life is pretty boring or even average.
The only thing we need to do is open our eyes. While our brain filters out every seemingly uninteresting detail, because our brain thinks we don’t need it. We have to train ourselves to deliberately see everything.
When we start to see more of our surroundings, the tiny bits and the everyday the same bits… we will see they are not boring at all. They are also not normal or average.
This only happens when we allow ourselves to slow down and smell the roses, so to speak.
Our lives are simply filled with special moments, unexpected details and intriguing people as long as we are open to the experience of seeing it all.
Most of the time that is pretty hard, but that is where I come in… my experiences, especially the Re-sets are designed to make you stop and slow down…. and not only will you notice the unnoticed but you will also discover a trick your mind plays.
Is it fun?
Hell Yeah, it’s the one thing that is missing from your life if you feel you are stagnant, life is boring and you feel stuck! I can totally recommend it.
